Member of the “Democratic Meeting” bloc, MP Hadi Abu Al-Hassan, considered that the “Framework Agreement” in its current form is not applicable, stressing that its continued implementation will keep Israel in Lebanese territory, and the arms issue will remain linked to its withdrawal.

Abu Al-Hassan said, in an interview with Al-Diyar newspaper, that the agreement is “unbalanced,” considering that pressures and dictates pushed the Lebanese state to accept it, indicating that the position of the “Democratic Meeting” is based on rejecting the agreement in its current form, and calling for its reconsideration in a manner consistent with the higher national interest, based on the popular position and the positions of the main political forces that reject it.

He added that there are no guarantees that guarantee a complete Israeli withdrawal from southern Lebanon in accordance with the terms of the agreement, nor does it allow, in his opinion, to legally prosecute Israel for the crimes, killings, destruction, displacement and surveying of villages it has committed, nor does it provide the possibility of forming negotiating committees in order to reach a comprehensive solution and peace, considering that Israel is ignoring international resolutions.

Abu Al-Hassan stressed the necessity of returning to the 1949 Armistice Agreement, even if necessary, to introduce amendments to it, as it is an international legal reference, in addition to relying on Resolution 1701 and the Taif Agreement.

Regarding the movements of the “Democratic Meeting” bloc and the Progressive Socialist Party, he explained that their goal is to thwart any attempt to cause internal division, stressing that working to amend the “Framework Agreement” and formulating a comprehensive national position comes in the context of eliminating strife and preventing division, expressing his confidence in the existence of a Lebanese awareness capable of overcoming this stage.

Regarding regional developments, Abu Al-Hassan believed that the path between Iran and the United States is still complex and long, and that the scene remains open to various possibilities, accusing Israel of continuous incitement, and warning at the same time that any escalation or security failure in the south and a return to war conditions will bring Lebanon back into conflict, something he described as categorically unacceptable.
