Agence France-Presse reported that Lebanon stipulated that Israel withdraw from two experimental areas, before participating in the negotiations scheduled to be held in Rome, as part of efforts aimed at establishing a ceasefire and reaching security understandings.
This position comes at a time when the Lebanese state continues its diplomatic move to mobilize international support and confirm its adherence to political solutions, in light of the continuing escalation and its repercussions on the Lebanese interior.
In this context, the Lebanese Ambassador to Rome, Carla Jazzar, presented before the Foreign Relations and Defense Committee of the Italian House of Representatives the reality of the situation in Lebanon, stressing that the Lebanese state adheres to respect for international law, its sovereignty and territorial integrity, and to Resolution 1701 as a framework for stability in the south.
Jazzar indicated that the Lebanese government is making efforts to avoid escalation and strengthen the role of state institutions, especially the army, revealing a path of direct negotiations between Lebanon and Israel under international sponsorship with the aim of reaching a final ceasefire.
She also called on the international community to intensify its support for Lebanon politically and humanitarianly, warning that any international inaction will have repercussions that extend beyond Lebanon to the entire region.
