“Lebanon Debate”
At a time when demands are increasing to speed up the decision on sensitive judicial files and restore the Lebanese people’s confidence in the judiciary, MP Marwan Hamadeh held a press conference in which he directed sharp criticism at the performance of the judiciary, asking about the fate of a number of judicial files that are still pending, considering that the continued delay reflects negatively on confidence in judicial reform.
Hamadeh said that he asked two basic questions that were supposed to be directed to the Minister of Justice, the Supreme Judicial Council, and the Public Prosecutor of Cassation, but they were all absent from the session.
He first asked: “How long will the farce of Fadel Shaker’s case not being resolved continue? In the eyes of public opinion, he has transformed from a wanted person into a victim of delay and procrastination, as if there was a judicial conspiracy to eliminate him through procrastination and depleting his health.”
Hamadeh also asked: “Less than a month away from the fateful anniversary of the Beirut Port explosion, what happened to the indictment decision that Judge Tariq Al-Bitar submitted to the Cassation Public Prosecution? And why is it still without an answer?”
He concluded by considering that these two files “shame, for me, confidence in judicial reform,” calling for accelerating the resolution of outstanding cases and enhancing citizens’ confidence in the judiciary.
