Former German international Ilkay Gundogan criticized a controversial arbitration decision, after the German national team was eliminated from the round of 32 in the 2026 World Cup by Paraguay.
The German team lost on penalties, 4-3, after regular and extra time ended in a 1-1 draw.

The first extra period witnessed Jonathan Tah scoring a goal for Germany, before video technology intervened and Moroccan referee Jalal Jaid decided to cancel it, due to interference on the Paraguayan goalkeeper.
Gundogan wrote on his account on the “X” platform: “The team’s performance today does not need any embellishment, but what is this strange decision from video technology? In the English Premier League, they will be satisfied with a faint smile for such a matter, especially when retracting a decision.”
He added: “Of course, it was very disappointing. Unfortunately, we did not succeed in convincing anyone of ourselves for 120 minutes.”
