The Israeli Minister of National Security, Itamar Ben Gvir, escalated his positions towards Lebanon, considering that the ceasefire “cannot continue,” at a time when the fifth round of direct negotiations between Lebanon and Israel begins in Washington, DC.
On Monday, Ben Gvir called for the continuation of the war in southern Lebanon and rejected any ceasefire agreement, considering that “Lebanon must be a playground for Israel.”
The Israeli minister repeatedly stressed that Israel “cannot agree to a ceasefire in Lebanon,” calling on Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to inform US President Donald Trump of this position.
Ben Gvir’s statements coincide with the launch of the fifth round of direct negotiations between Lebanon and Israel in Washington, after four previous rounds that began in April, as part of a path aimed at reaching an agreement.
