Labor Union: Tax increases are evidence of failure of public policies

The General Labor Union announced, in a statement, that it was “expecting the government, after the disasters that befell Lebanon, the widespread destruction of property and institutions, the collapse of citizens’ social capabilities, and the aggravation of spending and unemployment, to resort to increasing social benefits and the minimum wage in the public and private sectors, and to reconsider the salary supplements and eroding compensation, and to take the initiative to pay the six salaries due to the public sector, the military sectors, and retirees, and to strengthen the guarantor institutions to alleviate the medical and hospitalization disasters. It initiates increases and new tax burdens on food commodities, manufactures, oils, chemicals, meat, fish, candy, fruits, fruits, dairy products, and unspecified goods, which opens tax doors that are difficult to monitor within a clear, specific framework. Their fees also range between 1% and 3%, and their increases on the citizen after cost increases may reach 7 and 8% of the value of consumption, which increases the pressure on workers and people with limited income.

He added: “If this matter indicates anything, it indicates the failure of public policies and economic treatments at a minimum, in light of the large fluctuation in prices and the absence of deterrent monitoring. The General Labor Union demands that the government immediately withdraw from these taxes and fees, including the fee of three hundred thousand liras that was imposed on gasoline cans to finance increases that did not occur in the public sector.”

The Union called on the government to show solidarity to guard the economic, social, sovereign and national security of citizens who can no longer tolerate chaos, evasion, and the plundering of money and savings and sending them abroad, and not solidarity in order to humiliate them and empty their pockets of everything.
