Japan snatched a valuable draw from its Dutch counterpart, 2-2, on Sunday, in Group F of the 2026 World Cup, after equalizing two minutes before the end of regular time.








The Dutch team took the lead through its captain Virgil van Dijk in the 50th minute, before Keito Nakamura responded with an equalizer for Japan seven minutes later.

The Netherlands returned to the lead again with a goal by Crescencio Summerville in the 64th minute, but Daichi Kamada snatched the equalizer for Samurai Blue with a header in the 88th minute, giving his country a valuable point.

The first half witnessed alternating opportunities, as Japanese goalkeeper Zion Suzuki excelled in stopping Donyiel Malin’s attempts, while Nakamura and Ueda wasted two prominent opportunities for Japan.

The draw raised the morale of the Japanese team, which continued its positive results against the major teams, while the Netherlands settled for one point despite advancing twice during the match.

The sixth group competitions will be completed by facing Sweden and Tunisia in Monterrey.
