At a time when negotiations aimed at establishing a ceasefire and containing the escalation are faltering, President Joseph Aoun held the Israeli side responsible for any delay that may occur in the negotiation process, stressing Lebanon’s adherence to diplomatic solutions and continuing political efforts to reach a sustainable calm.

Aoun stressed that the Israeli side is still stubborn in the negotiations and is not presenting any clear plan, stressing that Lebanon is determined to proceed with a new round of negotiations.

He said that Lebanon is continuing on the negotiating track, adding that if the next round is postponed, the Israeli side will bear responsibility for that.

The President of the Republic explained that the “Washington Declaration” did not include granting Israel freedom of movement, but rather stipulated the right of both parties to self-defense.

Aoun also revealed that Lebanon is conducting contacts with Saudi Arabia and Qatar to reach a ceasefire, based on their relations with Iran.

The positions of the President of the Republic come in light of the continuing regional and international efforts aimed at stabilizing the calm and preventing the situation from sliding towards further escalation, while Lebanon continues its political and diplomatic movements in coordination with influential countries to advance negotiations and reach understandings that guarantee a ceasefire and create the appropriate conditions for long-term stability.
