“Lebanon Debate”

Representative Ibrahim Kanaan, from the Republican Palace in Baabda, confirmed that the Lebanese do not have the luxury of choosing between “Lebanon the state” and “Lebanon the arena,” considering that “the only power card capable of protecting Lebanon is the Lebanese state.”

He said that this position “represents the position of the President of the Republic and the Lebanese state in the person of its president, its government, and its institutions,” stressing that the Lebanese army constitutes “the backbone of any stability and any current or future guarantee that Lebanon needs,” and that all the projects and ideas proposed today revolve, in their essence, around the role of the military institution.

Kanaan added that this reality requires securing the requirements of the Lebanese Army at various levels, in terms of presence, readiness, personnel, and officers, stressing that these needs “are not addressed with good intentions, permits, positions, or slogans, but rather with actual political and material support and all the requirements this file requires.”

He pointed out that preserving the state is a priority, along with other essential files for the next stage, pointing out that the House of Representatives approved in its last session a package of laws that concern the Lebanese, including civil defense, nurses, the employees’ cooperative, accounting experts, and the European Bank, all of which are files directly related to the lives of citizens.

He stressed that work will continue in this direction to give a clear message to the international community that “Lebanon exists, does not bow under pressure and does not change its options,” explaining that the state’s choice “is not directed against anyone inside or outside, but rather it is the choice of Lebanon, the Lebanese, and everyone who loves Lebanon.”

Kanaan concluded by calling for people to circumvent this option and work under the umbrella of the Lebanese state and legitimacy, stressing the rejection of any reality imposed on the Lebanese that “does not secure Lebanon’s dignity and stability.”
