Italian producer Marco Balic revealed that the 2026 World Cup will witness, for the first time in its history, three separate opening ceremonies held in the host countries: the United States, Canada and Mexico.

Balic explained, in statements reported by the Associated Press, that the concerts will be united by a unified idea based on celebrating sports and the passion for football, while highlighting the cultural identity of each individual country.

He pointed out that Canada will reflect its multicultural character through a special design, while Mexico will rely on the traditional “papel picado” decoration, while the United States will present a World Cup symbol with a “shiny and luminous” design.

He added that each ceremony will include artistic performances, welcoming speeches, a parade of flags, and the presentation of the official ball, in addition to musical acts extending for about 30 minutes, and that it will be held about 90 minutes before the start of the matches.

The celebrations will begin on June 11, 2026 in Mexico City before the Mexico-South Africa match, and will continue on June 12 in Toronto and then Los Angeles, with the participation of a number of the most prominent international stars.

Balic stressed that organizing three opening ceremonies in three countries represents an unprecedented experience, reflecting cooperation between the host countries despite the political challenges, noting that Italy’s absence from the tournament “is unfortunate, but it allowed for neutrality in celebrating each country in a balanced manner.”
