An electric generator that works without fuel or any other source of energy, and an invention that was said to bring about a global revolution in the electricity sector and attract investments worth millions of dollars. With these promises, a man in his fifties was able to convince investors to finance his project, before hopes were dashed and the two businessmen, one residing in Lebanon and the other in the State of Qatar, discovered that they had fallen victim to an elaborate fraud based on creating a fictitious partnership project to seize money. What did the investigations reveal?
The indictment decision issued by the Lebanese judiciary stated that the plaintiff, “S.K.”, filed a complaint with the status of a personal claim against the defendant, “Naji B.”, explaining that the latter went to his office located in the Chouf area, where he owns an exhibition for the production and sale of sanitary ware, and introduced himself as an inventor and innovator who holds a number of patent certificates in various fields. He also gave an introductory presentation in which he claimed that he had invented an electric generator that works and produces electrical energy on its own without using any energy source, whether fuel, oil, or anything else, stressing that this project would constitute a qualitative shift in the world and generate huge profits.
The plaintiff added that the defendant succeeded, by embellishing the idea and highlighting its advantages, in convincing her to participate in financing the project, which prompted her to inform her partner residing in Qatar, A.D., of the matter and request that he come to Lebanon to review the invention. After examining the model, they discovered that it was not connected to any apparent source of energy, and consisted of a mechanical machine connected to magnets and some similar parts, which strengthened their conviction of the validity of what the defendant claims. Then, according to what was stated in the complaint, the latter began implementing his plan by requesting a sum of one hundred thousand dollars to develop the invention as a prototype in preparation for producing a generator with large electrical capacity, claiming at the same time that major international institutions began to contact him with the aim of monopolizing the invention and financing it.
The plaintiff indicated that she and her partner fell victim to these maneuvers, so they paid the defendant in installments a total amount of 20,000 US dollars, while the latter continued to request money under various pretexts, including the lack of materials necessary for the invention or the need for additional sums to complete the project, until he completely disappeared from sight, closed his workshop in the town of Damit, and cut off communication with him, which led them to believe that they had fallen victim to a fraud.
Based on the investigations and investigations conducted by the security services, the defendant “Naji B” (born in 1972) was arrested on 12/8/2025, and during his interrogation, the defendant stated that the plaintiff came with his partner to his office with the aim of purchasing products, and after they expressed their admiration for his electrical invention, they asked to participate in it, so they paid him $19,175 to contribute to the project. However, he explained that, after several months had passed, he was kidnapped for seven months, then arrested for nine months, which prevented him from implementing the project. He admitted that he was currently detained for a fraud crime, claiming that the circumstances of his kidnapping and arrest prevented him from returning the money, adding that he was ready, immediately after his release from prison, either to complete the implementation of the project or to return the money with its consequences.
After completing the investigations, Mount Lebanon Investigating Judge Rula Abdullah issued her indictment, requesting that the defendant’s actions be considered in compliance with the provisions of Article 655 of the Penal Code, and referred him to trial before the single criminal judge in Baabda.
