Prime Minister Nawaf Salam arrived at Rafic Hariri International Airport in Beirut, where he headed to President Rene Mouawad Airport in Klayaat to participate in the opening ceremony and put it into service, at a station that is considered one of the most prominent development projects that Lebanon has witnessed in recent years.
Upon his arrival at Beirut Airport, Salam was received by the Minister of Public Works and Transport, Fayez Rasamny, and the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Sky Lounge Services, Ziad Al-Manla, before he moved to Klayaat to participate in the official event.
The opening of President Rene Moawad Airport in Klayaat is seen as a strategic step that will strengthen the air transport infrastructure in Lebanon, relieve pressure on Rafic Hariri International Airport, in addition to stimulating economic, tourism and investment activity in Akkar Governorate and the north in general.
The project to restart Qlayaat Airport witnessed discussions and demands that continued for many years, as it is one of the vital projects capable of creating new job opportunities and stimulating economic activity in a region that has long complained of development deprivation.

The airport is also expected to contribute to enhancing air connectivity between Lebanon and a number of regional and international destinations, in addition to its role in supporting emergency plans, logistical transport, and developing the civil aviation sector.
The airport bears the name of the late President Rene Moawad, and its opening today is considered a turning point in the development of the Lebanese air transport sector, in light of the increasing need to expand the country’s operational capabilities and develop additional facilities capable of accommodating the expected growth in travel traffic in the future.
