Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi confirmed that Tehran informed the United States of the need to stop any Israeli aggression against Beirut, stressing that the Iranian armed forces are ready to respond if the Lebanese capital is subjected to any attack.
In an interview with Al-Mayadeen TV, Araqchi said that two days ago, Iran sent a message to the American side regarding the need to stop the Israeli attacks on Beirut, considering that Iranian threats to respond to any attack prompted other parties to reconsider their calculations.
He added, “When Iran announced that it would respond categorically in the event of an attack on Beirut, they were forced to reconsider their calculations,” stressing that Iran’s military capabilities had become clear to both the United States and Israel.
He pointed out that communications with the Americans have not been interrupted, and that messages are still being exchanged between the two sides. However, he stressed that no actual progress has been achieved in the negotiations so far, pointing out that the two parties are studying the texts exchanged and working on final formulations.
Araqchi stressed that the return to negotiations must be based on guaranteeing the rights of the Iranian people and ending the war on Iran, Lebanon, and the region.
He also considered that the United States entered the war based on wrong estimates about Iran’s capabilities, adding that bets on weakening Iran’s missile capabilities or pushing the Iranian people to move against the regime did not materialize.
He said that the Americans sought to achieve goals that he described as “unrealistic,” including changing the regime in Iran, considering that the war demonstrated his country’s ability to withstand and continue the confrontation.
