The English newspaper “The Guardian” revealed new details about the dismissal of Arne Slot as Liverpool coach, after a disappointing season that ended the team without titles.

On Saturday, Liverpool announced the departure of the Dutch coach from his position, due to the team’s declining results in its second season at Anfield.

Liverpool suffered during the 2025-2026 season in various competitions, as it did not win any championship, and did not secure qualification to the Champions League until the last round of the English Premier League.

According to the newspaper, Liverpool’s management did not inform Slot of the decision to dispense with him until about 90 minutes before the official announcement, which was a surprise to the Dutch coach.

She explained that the decision came after a comprehensive review of the season, led by Richard Hughes and Michael Edwards, where Slot’s performance was evaluated along with team data, without consulting the players.

Although the fans’ anger was taken into account, The Guardian indicated that it was not the deciding factor in the decision, but rather the conclusion came that the team was unlikely to improve under Slot’s leadership.
