In a remarkable development in light of the ongoing Israeli escalation in Lebanon, calls began to take to the streets under the title of holding the authority responsible for what it describes as “inability and complicity,” in a move that observers see as the first direct political and popular movement that touches on the call to overthrow the Covenant and the government since the election of the President of the Republic, Joseph Aoun.

Activists on social media circulated a statement calling for a gathering in Martyrs’ Square in Beirut at 4:00 pm today, Sunday, under the slogan “Where is the authority with our blood?”, directing sharp criticism at the presidency, the state, and political authority.

The organizers of the call considered that “diplomacy did not protect, the presidency did not protect, the state did not protect, and the authority did not protect,” accusing the authority of “being silent about the blood, insults, and targeting.”

The invitation also stated that “the authority that allows the invasion and occupation of Lebanon, that conspires against its people and its people and the most honorable resistance in its country, and that does not defend its people and allows them to be targeted, does not deserve to remain in its place.”

The organizers, who presented themselves under the name “The Resistant People of Lebanon – the Resistance Sect,” called for people to take to the street and move against the authority, considering that it is “colluding with an enemy against us that was never able to protect us.”

This move comes at a time when Lebanon is witnessing a broad political debate about how to deal with recent military developments and increasing international pressure, which makes this call a subject of follow-up to determine whether it will remain within the framework of limited action or will turn into the beginning of a broader political confrontation with the covenant and the existing authority.
