Prime Minister Nawaf Salam stressed that “nothing can justify the continuous attacks on the Tire and Nabatieh regions, nor the destruction of their historical monuments, nor the continuous threats targeting the people who are safe there.”

In a post on his account on the “X” platform, Salam considered that the repeated calls for residents of the south to leave their homes and forsake their livelihood “amount to the level of collective punishment that is condemned by all international norms and laws.”

He stressed that what is happening “makes us more committed to the necessity of an immediate ceasefire, working towards a complete Israeli withdrawal from Lebanon, and extending state authority over its entire territory, allowing all displaced persons to return to their homes in security and dignity.”

Salam added: “We continue to mobilize all Arab and international support to achieve this. This is our national duty and our inalienable right, which we will not compromise on under any circumstances.”

The Prime Minister’s position comes in light of the ongoing Israeli escalation in southern Lebanon, especially in the Tire and Nabatieh regions, where raids and threats of evacuation continue, amid an increasing displacement movement from a number of southern towns.

This escalation also coincides with ongoing diplomatic pressure led by Beirut at the Arab and international levels to stabilize the ceasefire and push Israel to completely withdraw from Lebanese territory, in parallel with the efforts of the Lebanese state to enhance the deployment of the army and extend state authority in the south in implementation of Resolution 1701.
