US President Donald Trump said that he is considering the possibility of attending one of the NBA Finals Series matches in two weeks, at Madison Square Garden, the home of the New York Knicks, who reached the finals for the first time since 1999.

During a Cabinet meeting at the White House, Trump explained that he “received an invitation” to attend a Knicks game. He had planned to go to New York on Wednesday if the latter had to play the fifth game against Cleveland, but “the series ended very quickly.”

He indicated that he was thinking of attending one of the league final matches at Madison Square Garden, after receiving an invitation from team owner James Dolan.

The final series begins on June 3 at the home of the Western Region team. The Knicks will host the third and fourth games on June 8 and 10, and perhaps the sixth game on June 16 if necessary.

President Trump, known for his passion for American football (NFL) or mixed martial arts (MMA), has a complex relationship with the American Basketball League, which he accused in 2020 of turning into a “political organization” after postponing several matches in response to the incident of the police shooting of a young African-American man, Jacob Blake.

The Golden State Warriors had expressed reservations about Trump’s visit after winning the championship in 2017, as is usual.

The Republican president at the time, who was in his first term, stated that he had withdrawn the invitation, as he did again in 2018 after they won the second title.
