Yedioth Ahronoth newspaper reported, citing senior officials in the Israeli army, that there are “question marks” regarding the next stage in Lebanon, in light of field developments and the continuing escalation on the southern border.

According to the newspaper, officials stressed that the Israeli army will insist on making the area extending from the border to the “yellow line” a demilitarized zone, in reference to the security arrangements that Tel Aviv seeks to impose in southern Lebanon.

These statements come at a time when tension is escalating on the Lebanese front, coinciding with the continuation of raids and mutual shelling, amid Israeli fears of the collapse of existing understandings and the expansion of the confrontation.

The increasing Israeli positions also reflect Tel Aviv’s commitment to imposing a new security reality in southern Lebanon, in parallel with the political and military pressures associated with the ongoing regional negotiations between Washington and Tehran, and the understandings that may accompany them related to Lebanon and the fronts surrounding Israel.
