“RED TV”
Representative Walid Al-Baarini confirmed that the current stage in Lebanon can no longer tolerate rhetorical positions, stressing the need to move to practical steps in the political, judicial and development files, from the general amnesty file to Hezbollah’s weapons, all the way to restarting the Qlayaat Airport.
In a prank on “RED TV” within the “Spectrum” program, Al-Baarini saw that Lebanon today needs action, not speeches, saying: “We in Lebanon are good at talking, but what is required today is a move to action.”
Regarding the general amnesty file, Al-Baarini stressed the necessity of developing a clear action plan to determine the mechanism for dealing with the file of Sheikh Ahmed Al-Assir and his companions, noting that the Lebanese army expressed its opinion on this file and registered it officially.
He added: “We respect the army leadership, but the House of Representatives is its own master, and the only outstanding paragraph relates to Ahmed Al-Assir and his companions.”
Al-Baarini explained that he had previously said that Lebanon did not need a general amnesty as much as it needed to speed up trials, but he added: “As long as the file has been raised, why don’t we benefit from it?”
He pointed out that there is a situation of injustice that must be addressed, stressing that “the Sunnis are not against the army,” but he pointed out the need to present a clear position to them on this issue, instead of leaving it stuck without a clear political and judicial treatment.
He said: “We are preparing a clear mechanism through which we can attract opinion opposing the release of Sheikh Ahmed Al-Assir from prison.”
In a related context, Al-Baarini criticized what he considered to be duplicity in approaching files related to the fighting outside Lebanon, saying that there were those who went out to the media and announced that they had 100,000 fighters and were ready to send them to Syria, “but when Sunnis go out to fight there, they are described as criminals.”
Regarding the political and security file, Al-Baarini considered that Hezbollah bears responsibility for the continuation of the war in Lebanon, stressing that “one group cannot resist and have its own opinion in the country.”
He stressed that what is required today is the presence of a Lebanese force under the roof of the state to deal with Hezbollah’s weapons issue, adding: “We want an actual state after today.”
As for the development file, Al-Baarini touched on the Qlayaat Airport, stressing that this project constitutes “a joy for the Akkaris and the northerners in general,” and indicating that there is great optimism that it can be implemented in the next stage.
Al-Baarini praised the response of the Minister of Public Works and Transport, Fayez Rasamni, saying that his presence in the ministry opened the door to a serious follow-up of this file, considering that if the minister had been from Hezbollah, the same response would not have occurred, as he put it.
