The National Center for Geophysics, affiliated with the National Council for Scientific Research, reported that it recorded at 09:00 local time this morning, Wednesday, May 20, 2026, an earthquake with a magnitude of 5.8 on the Richter scale, and its location was determined in Turkey, indicating that a number of citizens in Lebanon felt it.

In this context, the Turkish Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) announced that a 5.6-magnitude earthquake struck the state of Malatya in southern Türkiye on Wednesday morning.

AFAD explained that the earthquake occurred at 09:00 a.m. local time, at a depth of 7.03 kilometers below the surface of the earth, and its epicenter was in the “Batal Ghazi” district.

The Turkish authorities have not yet announced any human losses or material damage as a result of the earthquake.
