After a period of stable spring weather, Lebanon will enter, as of Wednesday afternoon, under the influence of a depression coming from southwestern Turkey, leading to a change in weather conditions represented by scattered rain, active winds, and a noticeable drop in temperatures, coinciding with rising sea waves and dense fog formation on the highlands.
In this context, Mona Omar, head of the Estimates Branch at the Meteorological Authority, revealed in an interview with “Lebanon Debate” that “the stable atmosphere will not last long, as the effect of the depression begins gradually from the noon hours, bringing with it volatile and rainy weather and a temperature lower than its seasonal averages, with its effect continuing until Thursday evening before the atmosphere returns to stability.”
She explained that “today’s weather on Wednesday will be mostly cloudy, with a gradual decline in temperatures during the afternoon hours,” noting that “rain will fall sporadically and may intensify at times, especially in the northern regions, with the possibility of lightning, thunder, and strong winds reaching speeds of about 75 km/h, which will lead to sea waves rising to within two metres, in addition to fog forming on the highlands.”
As for Thursday, Omar expected “the volatile weather to continue, with the weather being partly cloudy to cloudy at times, with temperatures below normal,” noting that “rain will fall sporadically during the morning, accompanied by active winds that may reach speeds of up to 50 km/h and the possibility of thunderstorms,” before it gradually recedes in the afternoon and the weather stabilizes during the evening, with fog remaining present over the highlands.
She added, “Friday will witness a relative improvement in weather conditions, with partly cloudy weather and a noticeable rise in temperatures in the mountainous and inland areas, while remaining almost stable on the coast, in conjunction with continued fog formation on the mountains.”
As for Saturday, it indicated that “the weather will be partly cloudy to partly cloudy, with an additional rise in temperatures on the coast and the highlands, compared to a relatively low temperature inland,” with fog continuing in the highlands during the morning and evening periods.
