Jordanian right-back Issam Al-Sumairi will miss his country’s national team’s historic first participation in the 2026 FIFA World Cup finals, after suffering a tear in the Achilles tendon, according to what was announced by the Jordanian Football Federation.
This injury represents a strong blow to the Jordanian national team, as the player will need a long period of treatment and recovery, less than a month before the start of the World Cup scheduled to take place in the United States, Canada and Mexico between June 11 and July 19.
Despite his absence from the Asian qualifiers, Al-Sumairi had excelled with his country in the recent Arab Cup tournament in Qatar, where he played three matches leading to the final match, which Jordan lost to Morocco, while he was not called up for the last two friendly matches of Al-Nashama against Costa Rica and Nigeria, which ended in a positive draw with one score (2-2).
