Al-Bassat confirmed in a post on the “X” platform that the visit “aimed to deepen the economic integration between the two countries, based on the firm conviction that the areas of cooperation between Lebanon and Syria are broad and vital, and that any real economic integration reflects a mutual benefit for the two countries. It is emphasized that Syria’s success constitutes a success for Lebanon as well.”
Al-Bassat refuted what was discussed in the talks with Minister Al-Shaar, noting that “the focus was on three basic axes, which are: working to facilitate trade relations by simplifying procedures, unifying rules, and reducing the cost of trade exchange between the two countries. Strengthening investment cooperation in a way that allows the private sector in Lebanon and Syria to benefit from the development plans that are being worked on in the two countries.” In this context, it was announced “the formation of a Lebanese-Syrian business council, with its first meeting to be held in Damascus in the coming weeks. It will discuss ways to expand bilateral cooperation to form a gateway towards broader and more integrated regional economic cooperation.”
