A temporary spring calm precedes a sharp shift in the weather scene, as Lebanon prepares for a rapid transition from warm weather to harsh winter weather, with a cold low that brings with it heavy rain and a noticeable drop in temperatures.
In this context, the specialist in weather conditions and climatology, Father Elie Khneisser, pointed out that “moderate spring weather is currently prevailing in Lebanon,” pointing out that “this stability will not last long, as air depressions are heading toward southeastern Europe and Turkey, accompanied by a cold polar descent that will affect Greece, the Black Sea Basin, and Turkey starting on Friday, and continuing until Monday evening.”
He explained, “This cold depression and heavy rain will extend its impact to the Lebanese coast, leading to a sharp and rapid drop in temperatures on Sunday night and Monday dawn, at a rate of up to 13 degrees in the Bekaa and mountainous areas, and 8 degrees on the coast, in a shift that will strongly restore winter weather to the country.”
He pointed out, “On the first Sunday of May, cold weather returns, before hot masses begin to gradually expand from the Arabian Peninsula with the position of the Indian monsoon low in mid-May.”
Khneisser added, “Lebanon will experience exceptional winter weather on Monday, accompanied by moderate to heavy rain, the possibility of hail, in addition to scattered thunderstorms, while snow is expected to touch heights of 1,900 to 2,000 meters, with the possibility of it falling below 1,800 meters in the northern regions if the northern winds intensify.”
As for the weather during the next few days, he explained that “Wednesday and Thursday will witness sunny and warm weather, with a gradual rise in temperatures until Saturday evening, where it will reach 26 degrees on the coast and 24 degrees in the Bekaa, before returning and dropping sharply with the onset of the effect of the depression.”
In detail, the temperatures on the coast are about 22 degrees during the day and 14 at night, and in the mountains at an altitude of 1,200 meters, it is about 18 during the day and 6 degrees at night, and in the Bekaa, it is 20 during the day and 6 at night, while at an altitude of 2,000 meters it is recorded at about 15 degrees during the day and 4 degrees at night. The sea water temperature is about 20 degrees.
He pointed out that “the winds will be westerly to southwesterly, with speeds ranging between 15 and 25 kilometers per hour, which will contribute to raising the humidity level and forming fog on the highlands.”
