Egypt: Canceling plans to rationalize electricity and returning to the previous working hours for shops

Egypt has ended the measures to reduce energy consumption that it had implemented last month, in order to confront the effects of the worsening energy crisis due to tensions in the region.

On Sunday, the Egyptian government announced the cancellation of the decision to close stores, commercial centers, and restaurants at 11 p.m. local time, and returned to the usual times.

The Council of Ministers explained in an official statement that “the Central Committee for Crisis Management agreed during its meeting today (Sunday) to stop implementing the decision to close public stores, commercial centers and restaurants at 11 p.m., and to return to the normal times previously in effect.”

It should be noted that on March 28, the government began implementing a plan to rationalize electricity consumption, which included closing shops and restaurants at nine o’clock in the evening on weekdays, and at ten o’clock in the evening on Thursdays and Fridays, for a whole month.
