According to his statements, astronomers have so far been able to observe more than a million asteroids throughout our solar system. These asteroids are distributed throughout the system, but most of them are concentrated in the region between the orbits of Mars and Jupiter, which is known as the main belt.
“In addition, there is a group of asteroids known as near-Earth asteroids. About 40,000 of them have been discovered so far. This discovery process is continuing at a very rapid pace,” he adds.
He also explains that near-Earth asteroids come in different sizes, with the largest of them exceeding one kilometer in diameter.
He continues: “Among them are objects that may pose a danger. They have approached the Earth at least once during their life cycle, or will approach it at a distance not exceeding 7.5 million kilometers. There are a large number of these objects.
