Iran: Questions about the storage locations of millions of barrels of oil are under surveillance

Samir Madani, co-founder of Tanker Trackers, said on Monday that their monitoring team relied on images taken by the European Space Agency’s Copernicus-2 satellite to identify the types of Iranian oil tankers that were present in the Strait of Hormuz over the weekend.

The team was able to identify ten huge tankers of the “very large crude carrier” type, each of which can carry two million barrels of oil, in addition to another “Suez Max” tanker with a capacity of one million barrels, as of yesterday, Sunday, for a total of 21 million barrels.

The group explained on the X platform that “Iran may hold oil in floating storage to better organize exports amid unrest, or in the event of unrest on Kharg Island.”

It is worth noting that Kharg Island, which was subjected to strikes by the United States during the war, represents the main station through which Iran exports the majority of its oil.
