Lebanon is witnessing severe weather fluctuations this week, as it begins with calm and moderate weather, then the temperature rises and the dust increases, ending with the arrival of a depression that brings back coldness and rain.
In this context, the head of the Surface Estimations Department at the Meteorological Department at Beirut Airport, Muhammad Kanj, explained, “The weather in Lebanon begins the week with a stable spring character, before weather conditions gradually change starting in the middle of the week.”
He pointed out that “Monday will be a stable spring day, with partly cloudy weather, local fog on the highlands, and low humidity, while temperatures remain below their seasonal averages, ranging on the coast between 14 and 22 degrees, in the mountains between 6 and 17 degrees, and in the interior between 6 and 18 degrees, with wind activity sometimes in the southern regions reaching 50 to 60 km/h.”
He added, “Tuesday witnesses the continuation of spring weather, with a gradual rise in temperatures to become within their normal levels for this month, as they range on the coast between 14 and 25 degrees (Beirut is about 23 and Tripoli is 24), in the mountains between 6 and 19 degrees, and in the interior between 7 and 22 degrees.”
As for Wednesday, Lebanon will begin to be affected by a warm air mass, which will lead to a significant rise in temperatures by 4 to 5 degrees, exceeding seasonal averages, especially on the southern coast where the temperature reaches 27 or 28 degrees.
King continued, “Thursday and Friday witness the peak of the effect of the warm mass, as temperatures reach around 30 degrees, with a dusty atmosphere resulting from desert dust and a sky overcast with layers of high clouds,” stressing that “the winds are active on Thursday, reaching about 60 km/h, which increases the severity of the dust in the atmosphere.”
He concluded by noting that “Saturday brings a change in weather conditions, with Lebanon affected by a depression that leads to a noticeable drop in temperatures, muddy rain, and unstable weather, after days of warm weather.”
