Zahran: Negotiations determine Lebanon's future amid fears of aggravation of the internal crisis

In his prominent comment on the start of talks between Iran and the United States in Islamabad, Salem Zahran, director of the Fulcrum Media Center, explained that what is happening “is not a passing detail, but rather it is the basis, and everything else is details.”

Zahran stated in a tweet on the “X” platform that the ongoing discussions in the Pakistani capital will determine the features of the next stage, “not only between the two countries, but also at the level of the entire region,” stressing that Lebanon will inevitably be part of its repercussions.

He pointed out that faltering negotiations may lead to the ignition of all fronts, while any positive progress may overcome existing obstacles, indicating direct effects on regional areas of tension.

In a related context, Zahran stressed the importance of maintaining a degree of internal stability in Lebanon until the picture becomes clearer, warning against falling into a “trap” sought by the Israeli enemy to drag the country into an internal conflict, without making any corresponding pledges related to withdrawal, releasing prisoners, and stopping attacks.

These opinions come in the midst of delicate negotiations between Tehran and Washington aimed at consolidating the ceasefire and turning it into a comprehensive settlement, amid regional waiting for its results. Lebanon is considered one of the regions most vulnerable to being affected by any change in the path of understanding or escalation, especially with the continuing security tensions in the south and the internal political division. Warnings are increasing at home about the danger of sliding into internal chaos, at a time when local considerations are intertwined with regional events.
