"Strategic error"Al-Husseini warns of the consequences of negotiating with Israel

Sheikh Muhammad Ali Al-Husseini expressed his opinion on the ongoing debate about the possibility of establishing direct relations between Lebanon and Israel, through a post on the “X” platform, warning of the potential risks of this step in light of the current regional situation.

Al-Husseini explained that discussing this issue at the present time “constitutes a strategic error in approach and timing,” considering that peace cannot be achieved by imposed decisions or by external pressure, but must be based on strong internal balances, national sovereignty, and gradual popular consensus.

He also stressed that rushing in this direction without creating the appropriate political and national conditions shows a “deficient reading of the scene,” and may lead to negative results that exacerbate internal disputes instead of resolving them.

At the end of his comment, he warned against repeating the mistakes of the past, in reference to the May 17 agreement, saying: “Whoever rushes something before its time will be punished by depriving it.”

This statement comes at a time when discussions are increasing about the future of the relationship between Lebanon and Israel, coinciding with diplomatic efforts led by Washington aimed at opening channels for dialogue between the two sides, amid a deep internal division over this issue, and accelerating security and military developments on the southern border.
