Iranian-Russian discussions to include Lebanon in the ceasefire agreement

Tasnim News Agency reported that Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi informed his Russian counterpart, Sergei Lavrov, during a phone call on Thursday that the United States must fulfill its commitments to end the conflict in all regions, including Lebanon.

During the call, Araqchi expressed his thanks and appreciation for Russia’s position rejecting what he described as the “illogical and unilateral” resolution put forward by the United States in the Security Council regarding regional developments, considering that this position had contributed to preventing the situation from worsening.

The Iranian minister stressed that his country acted responsibly when it agreed to a ceasefire, stressing at the same time the need for the United States to adhere to its responsibility to stop the war in various regions, including Lebanon.

The two parties also discussed the recent developments in the Strait of Hormuz, where Araqchi explained that safe transit through this waterway will be available in accordance with the instructions issued and in coordination with the Iranian armed forces, and via specified routes, while adhering to existing technical procedures, on the condition that the American side fulfills its pledges.

For his part, the Russian Foreign Minister expressed his welcome for the cessation of “military aggression against Iran,” stressing Moscow’s support for efforts aimed at ending the war and restoring stability and permanent security to the region.

Lavrov referred to Russian-Iranian cooperation within the framework of UNESCO in order to condemn the American and Israeli military attacks on historical and religious sites, including the “St. Nicholas Orthodox Church in Tehran.”
