Macron: The ceasefire must extend to Lebanon in preparation for broader peace in the Middle East

French President Emmanuel Macron stated that he met today with both Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and US President Donald Trump, and assured them that their acceptance of a ceasefire represents “the best possible option” at the present time.

Macron expressed his hope that all parties concerned with the conflict would fully adhere to the ceasefire, in all areas of clashes, including Lebanon, stressing that this is a necessary condition for making the truce reliable and applicable in the long term.

He stressed that the ceasefire must be a starting point for broad negotiations aimed at ensuring the security of all countries in the Middle East region, noting that any future agreement must address concerns related to Iran’s nuclear and missile programs, in addition to Tehran’s regional policy and actions that impede navigation in the “Strait of Hormuz.”

The French President stressed that establishing a strong and sustainable peace requires the participation of all parties capable of contributing to it, stressing that France will play its full role in this path, in close coordination with its partners in the Middle East region.

Macron explained that he also addressed these issues during his talks today with the leaders of Qatar, the UAE, Lebanon and Iraq, in the context of efforts to consolidate the ceasefire and progress towards a comprehensive settlement in the region.
