Ibrahim Rezaei, spokesman for the National Security Committee in the Iranian Parliament, told the Iranian Fars Agency, saying that “in response to the aggression against Lebanon, the movement of ships in the Strait of Hormuz must be stopped immediately.”
Rezaei continued, saying that “a strong and decisive strike has become necessary to prevent the entity’s aggression against Lebanon,” stressing that the equation is specific: “Either a ceasefire on all fronts, or no ceasefire on any front.”
In a related development, Fars Agency reported that Iran is studying options to respond to the raids that targeted Lebanon with strikes against Israel, in light of the continuing military escalation.
These statements come after a series of intense and unprecedented Israeli raids that affected 55 Lebanese regions and towns, extending from Beirut and its southern suburbs to the south and the Bekaa, in what the Israeli army described as “the largest strike since the start of Operation Lion’s Roar.”
The Israeli army explained that it targeted about 100 sites and infrastructure within 10 minutes and simultaneously, in an operation that it claimed was planned over a period of weeks. The raids led to large numbers of casualties and injuries, while search efforts for missing persons continued in several areas, especially in the Bekaa Valley.
Rezaei’s statement reflects Tehran’s link between the situation in Lebanon and any broader regional settlements, while a truce prevails between the United States and Iran for two weeks, while the situation in Lebanon remains outside the scope of comprehensive calm, raising fears of a broader regional escalation if Tehran takes practical measures in response to the events in Lebanon.
