NASA recently released three stunning photos taken by astronauts during the Artemis 2 lunar mission using the iPhone 17 Pro Max.
Last February, the agency announced its approval for the use of “iPhone” phones for long periods in space, and some sources reported that each of the four crew members aboard the “Orion” spacecraft would receive an “iPhone 17 Pro Max” phone to record personal moments through photos and video clips.
The photos show mission commander Reed Wiseman and mission specialist Christina Koch staring at planet Earth through a window in the main cabin of the Orion spacecraft. Information available on Flickr indicates that these photos were taken with the phone’s front camera on April 2, the second day of the mission.
The rest of the images published so far from the mission were taken using other cameras, including the Nikon D5, Nikon Z9, and GoPro HERO4 Black.
“Artemis 2” is NASA’s first manned trip to the moon since 1972. The crew is expected to reach the dark side of the moon on Monday, marking the farthest distance humans have traveled away from planet Earth. The Orion spacecraft is scheduled to return to Earth on April 10.
