Google announced a new update to its meeting service, Google Meet, that allows it to be used directly via the Apple CarPlay system in cars. This update aims to enable users to attend meetings while driving without having to use their phones, in a move that reflects the growing trend of integrating business tools with smart car systems.
The mechanism of the application depends on connecting the iPhone to the car via Bluetooth or USB cable, then opening the Meet application through the CarPlay screen. Then, upcoming meetings appear automatically and can be joined with one touch.
Google is keen to provide a safe user experience while driving, as video is completely disabled. Thus, the user does not see the participants, while the audio is transmitted through the car’s speakers while keeping the microphone active to participate in the conversation.
In large meetings, the mute feature may be activated automatically to reduce noise, with muting easily available from the in-car display.
In-car controls are limited to basic functions, such as muting or unmuting audio, and ending a meeting. Some other features such as chat, raising a hand, polls, and questions and answers are absent, requiring the user to stop and go to the phone if he needs them.
The feature also supports Seamless Transition, where audio automatically moves to the phone or speakers if CarPlay is disconnected, without interrupting the meeting.
Google has begun gradually offering this service since the end of last March, and it is available to Google Workspace users, individual subscribers, and personal accounts.
It is worth noting that users of the Android Auto system, which is developed by Google itself, have not yet obtained this feature, but the company has confirmed its imminent launch.
OpenAI recently launched the ChatGPT application for the CarPlay platform, with voice interaction available. (aitnews)
