The issue of the Sohmor Bridge returned to the forefront of events, after Ahmed Karim, director of the Civil Defense Center in Sohmor, received a call from the Israeli army, demanding that citizens and journalists be prevented from approaching the bridge, in a security development that suggests the possibility of a renewed attack on it.
A reporter pointed out that the Israeli army warned of the possibility of targeting the bridge again, which would increase tension in the region and return it to the immediate danger zone, amid fears of a repeat of the bombing that targeted the vital crossing yesterday.
A reporter reported on Friday that Israeli aircraft carried out an air strike targeting the bridge linking the towns of Sohmar and Mashghara over the Litani River, in an escalatory step that targeted one of the most important vital crossings in the Western Bekaa.
This raid came after an explicit warning issued by “Avichai Adraee,” the Israeli army spokesman, via the
Adraei explained that the purpose of the attack was to prevent the transfer of reinforcements and combat equipment, calling on residents to head north of the Zahrani River, and warning that any movement southward could put their lives in danger.
The two bridges that extend between Sohmor and Mashghara are considered among the main crossings over the Litani River, as they constitute an essential connecting point between the two banks of the river. They also connect a number of towns in the Western Bekaa to each other, and they play a vital role in connecting the Bekaa and the south.
It is expected that any new attack will significantly disrupt traffic and supplies, in light of the ongoing field escalation taking place in southern Lebanon and its surrounding areas.
