City moves early... A new offer for Rodri and a warning of a decisive summer

Manchester City is making a new attempt to extend the contract of its midfielder, Rodri, as part of their efforts to secure his future before reaching the final stages of his current contract.

According to Fabrizio Romano’s statements, the English club is considering two options if the player refuses to renew: either demand a large sum in exchange for selling him in the next summer transfer period, or risk his departure for free in 2027.

In a related context, the newspaper “Marca” reported that “Rodri” and Newcastle player “Sandro Tonali” represent interest for Real Madrid, with the City player remaining the Spanish club’s first choice during the summer.

Rodri had previously indicated that his move to Real Madrid is not unlikely, stressing that his previous association with Atletico Madrid does not constitute an obstacle to representing the royal team, and added that any potential negotiations will take place through his agent and not with him personally.

Since joining Manchester City in 2019, Rodri has won 12 titles and participated in 293 matches, scoring 28 goals and making 32 assists. He also played a decisive role in Spain’s victory in the Euro 2024 championship, and won the Golden Ball in the same year.

It is noteworthy that the 29-year-old Spanish player suffered a cruciate ligament tear in September 2024, which led to his absence from the field for a long period.
