The President of the Public Administration Employees Association, Walid Geagea, announced that the elections for the association’s administrative body were held in accordance with legal procedures on February 7, 2026. He explained that the elections resulted in the victory of his list, and the results of these elections were documented and deposited with the Ministry of Interior through the competent court.
Geagea added that on February 15, 2026, some individuals called for another election, violating the association’s bylaws. He considered these elections illegal and not based on any approved foundations.
He pointed out that this matter raised confusion about legal representation within the association, which necessitated resorting to the competent judiciary to decide this dispute. He stressed the association’s full commitment to the judiciary’s decision, as it is the only body authorized to determine the legitimate representative of the association and resolve this issue once and for all. He called on everyone to be patient and not be led by any inaccurate information until the final judicial ruling is issued.
Regarding this division, whose signs are beginning to appear among employees, association member Ibrahim Nahal confirms to us that the current administrative body headed by Geagea is the legitimate administrative body. He recalled that the group that was issuing statements in the name of the association is illegal from a legal standpoint, and claims to be the administrative body after holding elections on February 15, even though the legitimate elections took place on February 7. He considered that the matter is now in the custody of the judiciary.
Regarding the impact of this division on the movements and demands, Nahal stressed that it will have no impact at all, especially since the Sharia Commission operates officially and legally, and no one seeks to waste the rights of employees or undermine the unity of the union body.
He pointed out that the statements issued here and there have no impact on the demands, stressing that these parties have always issued statements without affecting the movements or the unity of the employees’ union body. He added that the administrative body has left this division aside and is focusing on demanding the rights of all employees, because the primary concern at this stage is the unity of union work and the rights of employees, which form the basis.
Nahal pointed to the political factor that prompted such an action, considering that this matter has not been absent from any union work in various sectors, and that the political factor has always been prominent in union work.
Nahal concluded by stressing that the goal of the lawsuit is to prove the existence of one legitimate administrative body, which is headed by Walid Geagea, and which was elected in a legitimate and legal manner and registered with the Ministry of Interior. He stressed that the goal of the association today is to preserve the rights of employees, which the government is trying to squander, as it “gave with one hand and took with the other, so it reduced six salaries, but at the same time it raised the tax on gasoline and placed employees facing citizens, and the employee did not receive any increase, which will have no value with today’s crazy price rise,” questioning the possibility of obtaining the six salaries under these difficult circumstances.
