Hezbollah’s military media issued a detailed statement about the clashes that took place yesterday, Wednesday, between Islamic Resistance (Hezbollah) fighters and the Israeli army in the Taybeh-Qantara area in southern Lebanon.
The statement stated that, two days ago, members of the 7th Brigade of the 36th Division of the Israeli army pushed a remotely operated bulldozer between the Al-Muhaisbat area in Al-Taybeh and the town of Al-Qantara, with the aim of exploring defensive resistance sites. He added that the fighters monitored this movement and placed the bulldozer under close surveillance with the aim of dragging the Israeli forces into a tight trap.
According to what was stated in the statement, an Israeli armored company moved at 18:50 on Wednesday evening in a longitudinal pattern from the direction of Al-Muhaisbat towards Al-Qantara, with the aim of controlling it. The statement indicated that the resistance fighters waited until the vehicles came into range of fire, then fired guided missiles targeting the middle faction, which consisted of four Merkava tanks and a D9 military bulldozer, which led to its destruction.
The statement stated that the rear faction, which consisted of four Merkava tanks, tried to hide behind a thick smokescreen, but the fighters targeted it again with guided missiles, which, according to the statement, led to the destruction of all its preparations.
He also pointed out that the resistance’s artillery support units simultaneously targeted the leadership headquarters of the Israeli forces in the Taybah, Rab Thaleen, and Al-Awaidah projects, in addition to the reinforcement forces that arrived to evacuate the wounded.
The statement added that the front faction tried to advance towards the entrance to the town of Qantara, but resistance fighters confronted it with direct missiles, resulting in the destruction of a D9 military bulldozer and a Merkava tank, in addition to another tank near the tank. As a result, according to the statement, Israeli soldiers were forced to abandon some vehicles and withdraw on foot towards the Al-Muhaisbat area.
The statement concluded by noting that the fighters were able to thwart the Israeli maneuver and inflict losses on the attacking forces, which, according to the statement, amounted to the destruction of 10 Merkava tanks and two D9 military bulldozers. The statement also indicated that the resistance had thwarted a similar attempt two days earlier from Taybah towards Deir Seryan, where it “said it had destroyed eight Merkava tanks.”
