A final government decision puts an end to the controversy over the Karantina site

The Disaster Risk Management Unit in the Presidency of the Council of Ministers denied the validity of the rumors spread about the nature of the ongoing preparations at the Karantina site, stressing that this news is baseless.

The unit indicated in a statement that preparing the site comes as a preventive and precautionary measure only, and not for urgent use, and that the final purpose of the site has not yet been definitively determined.

The unit also clarified that the site is located outside the borders of the “Beirut Port,” and does not in any way affect the progress of work there, and is about one kilometer away from residential areas. She added that if work begins on the site, all necessary measures will be taken to ensure public safety and maintain a positive relationship with the local population, knowing that the area is subject to the supervision of the army and relevant security forces.

At the conclusion of the statement, the unit stressed the importance of dealing with this issue responsibly and calmly, and avoiding spreading misleading information and exaggerations, in order to preserve the public interest, enhance national unity, and ensure the stability of the “country.”
