The Wall Street Journal reported that the Israeli attack on the Iranian South Pars field had caused widespread discontent in Arab circles, as these countries held Washington partly responsible due to its inability to prevent this attack.
The newspaper reported that Arab governments have exerted great pressure on the administration of US President Donald Trump with the aim of stopping the US and Israeli strikes targeting the energy infrastructure in Iran, considering that this escalation also threatens them.
The report indicated that the Gulf states have repeatedly warned the United States against expanding the scope of the confrontation to include vital sectors that represent basic pillars of the region’s economies and the global economy as a whole.
Iranian media and officials in Tehran had previously reported a US-Israeli attack targeting oil and gas facilities in southern Iran, including the “South Pars” field and the Asalouyeh industrial zone, which processes its resources.
On the other hand, Trump later stated that Washington was not previously aware of Israel’s plans to target the field. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu also confirmed on Thursday that the Israeli Air Force carried out these strikes alone and without informing Trump, pointing out that targeting Iranian gas facilities will not be repeated.
In a related context, Reuters quoted a source as saying that the Qatari authorities began evacuating employees from the liquefied natural gas production complex in Ras Laffan in the north of the country on Wednesday, following Iranian threats to target energy facilities.
The source added that the evacuation step came after an Iranian warning of imminent attacks that might affect oil and gas facilities in Saudi Arabia, the UAE and Qatar. (Russia Today)
