Israel accelerates work on... "Laser defense system" Amid the escalation of Hezbollah attacks

Informed sources in Israel revealed that the laser air defense system known as “Or Eitan,” which was deployed in the north of the country, has not yet entered into actual operation. The sources indicated that the system needs a few days or perhaps weeks before it is ready to contribute to air defense missions.

The relevant authorities in Israel explained that this modern system has not yet been used in any interception operations, despite its deployment in the northern region in light of the ongoing military escalation on the border with Lebanon.

According to the sources, the Or Eitan system will work alongside other air defense systems, such as Iron Dome and Patriot, with the aim of strengthening Israel’s defense capabilities.

Israeli army spokesman Hillel Biton Rosen said that preparations are still underway to equip the new system in preparation for its activation.

This comes at a time when missile and drone attacks continue coming from Lebanon towards northern Israel.

On Monday, Hezbollah announced the launch of a missile and a swarm of drones towards the Nahariya settlement, which led to the missile landing directly on a building and igniting a fire.

The attack resulted in fifteen Israelis being injured, while the party confirmed in a statement that the operation came “in defense of Lebanon and its people” and within the prior warnings it sent to the targeted settlement.

The Lebanese-Israeli front is witnessing a continuous escalation, as Hezbollah announces on a daily basis the implementation of dozens of attacks against military sites, barracks and settlements in northern Israel, using surface-to-surface missiles, drones and artillery shells.

The party also reiterates its announcement of targeting Israeli tanks and military equipment, while the two sides exchange strikes around the clock, which reflects the expansion of the scope of the military confrontation on the northern front.
