Spotify launches a new feature that gives you more control over song suggestions

Spotify has announced the launch of a new feature that gives users more control over the music and recommendations they see in the app. This feature, called “taste profile,” aims to help users more easily customize their music preferences, so that the app’s suggestions accurately reflect their true interests.

The company announced the feature at South by Southwest, where Spotify officials explained that the system uses an algorithm that collects users’ listening data to create a profile that reflects their music tastes.

With the new update, users will be able to:

Review all their listening data in one place within the app.

Modified “taste profile” to improve future recommendations.

Request more or less of certain music genres.

Get new suggestions that change based on the edits they make.

How to access the feature?

To access the “Taste Profile” within the app:

1. Click on your profile picture in the application.
2. Scroll down the page.
3. You will find the Taste Profile section that allows you to modify your preferences.

Why did Spotify launch this feature?

Many users had an issue with music recommendations not reflecting their true interests, especially when sharing the account with family members or children. Children’s music, relaxing tracks, or sleep music often influence recommendations and may even change the results of the annual Spotify Wrapped report.

The company will start launching the feature in a trial for Premium subscribers in New Zealand in the coming weeks, and will later expand it to other markets around the world.
