Meta has postponed the launch of its new artificial intelligence model, codenamed “Avocado”, to May at the earliest, after it was scheduled to be launched this month. This news came according to a report published by the New York Times.
This delay occurs despite the huge investments that the company is allocating to enhance its efforts in the field of artificial intelligence, including plans to design and develop its own electronic chips.
In January, Meta revealed plans for capital spending ranging between $115 and $135 billion during the current year, as part of its quest to reach what is called “super intelligence,” the stage in which artificial intelligence systems are likely to exceed human cognitive capabilities.
According to the same newspaper, the new model that the company has been working on for several months has not achieved the required level of performance compared to the latest artificial intelligence models presented by competing companies.
