The head of the Federation of Trade Unions and Employees in the North, Shadi Al-Sayyid, confirmed that “diesel has turned into a hidden commodity in light of a crisis reality and a complete absence of the effects of government promises.” He explained: “After the government reassured us that monopolizing gasoline, diesel, and other commodities is prohibited, we are faced with the fact that one of the companies in Tripoli is selling its share of liquid gas to Beirut in order to make a profit known to us.”
Al-Sayed stressed that “what is happening is a cheap extortion of the citizen and trading in people’s money, destinies and interests,” warning “the companies concerned with oil and the companies selling fuel to reveal their papers, and we call on the security services and oversight agencies in the Ministry of Economy to play a decisive role with these blackmailing thieves who are plundering people’s money.” He demanded that the papers of these companies be revealed and that they be held accountable. He also appealed to the security services and the Ministry of Economy to do their duty regarding these practices.
