In a television interview on Israel’s Channel 12, Israeli Defense Minister Yisrael Katz stated that the current military operations aim to eliminate Iran’s nuclear and missile capabilities, in addition to paving the way, as he put it, to “overthrow the Iranian regime.”
Katz stressed that Israel continues to impose a “strong deterrence equation on Hezbollah,” and explained that his country will not allow the party to regain its previous strength or regain its ability to strategically influence the course of operations.
Katz’s statements come in light of a noticeable military escalation in the region, after the intense air strikes launched by the United States and Israel on targets inside Iran, which targeted military installations and infrastructure related to Iran’s nuclear and missile programs.
This escalation has led to an expansion of the scope of the confrontation in the Middle East, with the exchange of attacks between various parties in the region, which has raised international concerns about the possibility of the situation deteriorating into a broader regional war.
