Bahrain announced on Monday that a naval facility near Port Salman had been attacked by Iran, which represents a new escalation affecting the Gulf states in light of the escalating military confrontation in the region.
The Bahraini Ministry of Interior announced on the “X” platform that “the Iranian aggression is targeting a marine facility near Port Salman,” and confirmed that civil defense teams have begun taking the necessary measures to control the fire that resulted from the attack.
In a related context, the Bahrain News Agency reported that the air defenses succeeded in “destroying and shooting down 61 missiles and 34 Iranian drones since the start of the attack,” which indicates the scale of the attacks that the Kingdom has been subjected to during the past few hours.
On the political level, the King of Bahrain, Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, received a phone call on Sunday from US President Donald Trump, during which he condemned the Iranian attack on the Kingdom’s lands, and affirmed the United States’ support and standing by Bahrain.
According to Bahrain News Agency, Trump stressed his country’s readiness to provide all forms of support that guarantee the protection of the Kingdom’s sovereignty, security and stability.
The National Communications Center announced on Saturday that Bahrain had confronted a number of missiles that were detected in its airspace, stressing that the air defense systems of the Bahrain Defense Force had dealt with them successfully.
The Center also explained that the competent authorities are constantly monitoring developments to ensure the protection of the Kingdom’s airspace and the preservation of the security and safety of citizens and residents, in light of the escalation of regional tension.
This development comes at a time when the region is witnessing a major military escalation between the United States and “Israel” on the one hand, and Iran on the other hand, with the scope of attacks expanding to include more than one Gulf region.
