The American Embassy in Beirut issued a statement through its official account on the “X” platform, stating that it will close its doors on March 2.
The embassy called on American citizens in need of assistance to contact the following numbers:
From within the United States and Canada: +1-888-407-4747
From outside the United States: +1-202-501-4444
In addition, citizens can communicate via email: (email protected)
The embassy also invited its citizens to register in the Smart Traveler Registration Program (STEP) to obtain the latest developments via the link: https://mytravel.state.gov/s/step
This announcement of the closure comes in light of the escalation of tension in the region, following the joint American-Israeli attack on Tehran, and the subsequent exchange of strikes and threats to expand the scope of operations in the region.
These events affected a number of diplomatic missions in the Middle East region, as some embassies raised their level of preparedness and took preventive measures in anticipation of any incoming security consequences.
On the Lebanese level, the official authorities pay great attention to the security situation, with constant emphasis on the importance of maintaining internal stability and protecting the country from the effects of the regional conflict, while foreign missions continue to update their precautionary measures based on their own security assessments.
