News agencies reported on Sunday that former Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad was killed in the attack that targeted Tehran yesterday, which included strikes on leadership sites in the Iranian capital.

According to the information received, Ahmadinejad, who served as President of the Islamic Republic between 2005 and 2013, was among the victims who fell in the attacks that targeted senior state officials.

It is noteworthy that Ahmadinejad was considered one of the prominent figures in the ultra-conservative movement in Iran during the first decade of the millennium, and was famous for his strong statements and positions against Israel and the West, especially with regard to the nuclear program and regional policy.

In July 2024, media reports indicated that he survived an assassination attempt, as the “Iran International” website reported that unknown assailants tried to target him by sabotaging his car before he headed to a religious event in the city of Zanjan.

So far, no official and independent confirmation has been issued regarding the news of his death, and the details and circumstances of the attack are still under investigation and follow-up.
