The President of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, announced that “there is no danger” to fans attending the 2026 World Cup, despite the violence that the country witnessed approximately three months before the start of the tournament.

The Euro Sport website stated that Sheinbaum confirmed the provision of “all the necessary security guarantees” during the period of hosting the World Cup matches.

Akron Stadium, located in the greater Guadalajara region, is scheduled to host a match between Mexico and South Korea on June 18, knowing that the stadium’s capacity is 48,000 spectators.

It is noteworthy that the tournament will be held with the participation of 48 teams and jointly organized by Mexico, the United States and Canada.

These statements came in the wake of the escalation of violence after the killing of drug gang leader Nemesio “El Mencho” Oseguera Cervantes on Sunday, during a military operation, and the subsequent retaliatory attacks that left dozens dead.

People suspected of belonging to drug gangs also blocked roads and set fire to vehicles, in addition to attacking gas stations, stores and banks, in addition to clashes with security forces.
